So I am starting on week 2! Looks that we have made it out of summer... it is raining here and 60° ... I am now learning that I really do need some rain boots and a umbrella! I have meet the neighboors, they are all very nice. At first they were all shy to try out there English with me, but they all seemed to get over that quickly, and before long were asking many questions about me and the states. I really need to learn Norwegian though.. just going to the grocery store can almost be nerve racking... I now have learned what to say when... they first will ask if you would like a bag to bag you groceries, then they ask if you want a copy of your receipt.... so if you remember that your good. Unless you get the happy checker that asks something else, then you have to confess... I dont speak Norwegian yet... I am sorry do you know English... hahah talk about feeling like a foreigner. Speaking of grocery stores.. I have been on a hunt for 2 things which seem to not be here! Vanilla Extract and Alfredo Sauce. We have found a vanilla bean, yeas just one for the price of 40 NOK, $8 for one vanilla bean is not going to do it... so the hunt is still on.
I have fond a very useful thing though. Google maps now has walking directions. This is really going to save me some time. I have stared at the map for hours now since i have been here, mostly thinking what is the easiest way to get here or there. Yo
u can even modify the route, say for construction or that you want to walk by such-n-such. It is amazing! I think that my favorite part of it is that Google has a safety warning with the directions. " USE CATION WHEN WALKING IN UNFAMILIAR AREAS" I am not sure why, but I love that Google is trying to be the protective mother. I was really wishing for a iPhone of Friday. I managed to get myself lost.... I was so close to the right path too! Like 3 blocks off. I though I could find my way home form where i was.. but somehow I talked myself out of it... backtracked forever only to discover when i got home to look at the treasured map how close i really was to begin with!So as alway there are photos up on my flickr!
